Strategic Planning

KST Consulting facilitates sessions of Boards and Staffs for setting a course you're your organization's future. From environmental scanning to strategic planning, from crafting a compelling vision to defining strategies for your success, KST Consulting can help lead the path to your desired future. Strategic planning is giving way to strategic evolution of an organization's plans. This means it's an ongoing process that requires continual attention - not something done every three to five years that results in a nicely bound document that sets on a shelf.

Scanning the environment for trends and issues affecting your organization is a critical element to your success. A careful analysis of all sectors affecting your organization: customer; competitor; economic; technological; social; political; legal and geophysical is needed. These elements must be considered separately as well as together to determine how the commonalities blend together, resulting in a whole picture that is more important than the sum of the parts. A strategic radar model is adapted from Dr. Karl Albrecht's The Northbound Train: Finding the Purpose, Setting the Direction, Shaping the Destiny of Your Organization and referenced in the Environmental Scan Report, Mapping the Future of Your Association, a 2006 publication of ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership.

From reading periodicals to surfing the web and watching your competition while remaining carefully attuned to your customers' wants, needs and responses to your current deliverables is a vital part of strategic planning. This is a function that is best done frequently with designated environmental scanners convening on a regular basis to compare findings and determine implications for the organization. At times, this step can be informal and periodically it is necessary to formally convene decision makers in a facilitated planning session.
